Puccini’s American opera had its highly acclaimed world premiere at the Metropolitan Opera in 1910, with the composer himself in the audience. Set during the California Gold Rush, the title girl is one of Puccini’s most appealing heroines – a strong and independent woman determined to win the man she loves.

Although the opera fell out of favor with audiences for a few decades after its initial success, The Girl has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years and is now considered one of Puccini’s best works.

Soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė makes her Met debut as Minnie, the tough innkeeper with a heart of gold who finds love when she least expects it. Tenor SeokJong Baek is the handsome bandit who shows up in the remote California mining town to steal her heart.

Baritone Christopher Maltman stars as the lawman, determined to do justice – and win Minnie for himself. Maestro Keri-Lynn Wilson takes the conductor’s chair to lead one of opera’s most action-packed adventures, live from the Met stage to cinemas worldwide.

RUNNING TIME Approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes incl. one intermission
