There really isn’t a best time to visit Piteå – every season has its own charm. In summer, the archipelago, beaches and white nights beckon, whilst autumn offers vibrant colours and crisp, clear days. Winter offers snow-covered landscapes, winter activities and the Northern Lights, and in spring nature comes to life with brighter days and new experiences. Whenever you choose to travel, there is always something to discover in Piteå.

Summer in Piteå is perhaps the season most closely associated with the town. During the bright summer months, the municipality is filled with activities, events and experiences for both residents and visitors. Here you’ll find popular attractions such as Pite Havsbad, the Piteå Dansar och Ler music festival and the Piteå Summer Games football festival.

Winter in Piteå is not to be underestimated. Here you’ll find snow-covered landscapes, magical northern lights and activities such as dog sledding and the popular ice rink. For those who want to experience a true northern Swedish winter, there are few places that offer the same combination of nature, adventure and tranquillity.

Yes, there is a tourist information centre in Piteå that can help you find attractions, activities, events and experiences throughout the municipality. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, you’re welcome to contact us for tips, inspiration and practical information ahead of your visit.

Piteå has a wide range of car parks, making it easy for you to visit the town centre. There are around 1,500 parking spaces here, 750 of which are in multi-storey car parks. There are approximately 45 disabled parking spaces.

There are information signs at the various car parks explaining how to register.

The charge applies on weekdays from 8 am to 6 pm and on the day before Sundays and public holidays from 9 am to 3 pm. At other times, there is no charge and no registration is required.

One hour’s free parking (Zone 2240) during paid parking hours applies at most car parks on private land and at some on-street parking spaces in accordance with Tariff 2. The free parking period applies on a daily basis.

Two hours’ free parking (Zone 2247) during paid parking hours applies in three of the municipality’s car parks – Stadsberget, Leoparden and Älgen – in accordance with Tariff 3. The free parking period applies on a daily basis.

Register your parking via the app, text message, voice response or payment machine. At the payment machines at Stora Coop and ICA Kvantum, you can register your free parking time using a special ‘green button’ on the display. At certain on-street car parks, such as Lillbrogatan, Storgatan and Uddmasgatan, you can also pay by card at the payment machine.

Parking discs are required in some municipal car parks outside the city centre, for example at Arena Norrstrand, which is home to the indoor football hall, PiteEnergi Arena, the bowling alley and Norrmalmia Sports Hall.

The History of Piteå

Piteå Museum tells the story of the town and the Piteå region, from the earliest settlements to modern-day Piteå. Through exhibitions, artefacts and photographs, you’ll gain an insight into what life has been like through the ages. The museum also offers guided tours where the history and the town’s surroundings are brought to life with the help of a guide.

Activities and experiences

Piteå offers a wide range of activities for children and families all year round. There is everything from playgrounds, swimming spots and family-friendly beaches to nature experiences, day-out destinations and exciting events. In summer, attractions include Pite Havsbad and the archipelago, whilst winter offers snow play, the ice rink and other winter activities. Whatever the season, there are plenty of opportunities to create memorable experiences together.

Yes! In Piteå, there are plenty of activities to discover when the weather isn’t at its best. Who is the white reindeer? It’s Rejne!

Rejne is Piteå’s very own mascot, and he is a proud and cheerful resident of Piteå who loves to be part of all the fun things happening in the town. He’s always happy to join in with whatever visitors enjoy doing, both as a friend and as a mascot. White reindeer are said to bring both happiness and good luck, and Rejne is happy to spread that feeling to everyone he meets.

Normal opening hours are:

Weekdays 10am–6pm
. Opening hours on Saturdays and Sundays may vary between different shops and shopping centres. Many have shorter opening hours at the weekend, so it’s always a good idea to check the current opening hours before your visit.
