Journey into madness

Furunäset, Piteå, is a beautiful place with beautiful buildings – and a horrible past.

During almost one hundred years of institutional care, thousands of people passed through the gates of the now closed hospital – many of them never to leave again. Take a walking tour of the grounds of the former asylum and listen to their story and the history of mental healthcare through the ages.

The tour takes app. 45 minutes, starting at the marina close to the glasswork studio Heta Hyttan and ending at the old asylum graveyard.
