Welcome!

Thanks to the right of public access, everyone can enjoy Sweden’s natural surroundings – regardless of who owns the land. You are free to hike, cycle, paddle, swim and pick berries and mushrooms, amongst other things. With this freedom comes a responsibility to show consideration for nature, wildlife, landowners and other visitors. A good rule of thumb is: do no harm – do no damage.

For more information on the right of public access, please visit the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s website

Getting around Piteå is easy. Local and regional buses connect the town centre with neighbourhoods, villages and neighbouring municipalities, whilst many attractions are within easy cycling or walking distance.

You can explore the Piteå archipelago by private boat, tour boat, water taxi or kayak. However you choose to travel, a unique archipelago awaits, with hundreds of islands, beaches, nature experiences and places to visit.

M/S Laponia and Nordisk Sjötaxi can help you get out into the archipelago.

Dogs are welcome at bathing areas open to the public. The rules state that dogs must be kept on a lead and that you must pick up after them. If you break these rules, you may be fined by the police.

The only place where there are clear rules regarding dogs is at Sandängesstranden, commonly known as Gläntan.

According to the regulations for the Sandängesstranden Nature Reserve, dogs must not be allowed to run free or swim there between 15 May and 15 September.

Dog-free bathing areas
Dogs are not permitted on a number of public beaches, particularly those managed by associations. These are:

Sandöbadet in Sjulnäs
Näsudden in Långnäs
One side of Borgarudden (by the campsite)
Harrträsket in Norrfjärden
Kvarndammen in Alterbruk
Hemträsket in Blåsmark
Hamnviken
Lidträsket Svensbyn
Please respect the signs!

Always make a habit of checking the signs! Different rules apply at private bathing areas, as well as at certain bathing areas run by other organisations. You should therefore always check the rules before going for a swim.
