In October 1768, the ship Endeavour and its British scientific expedition under the command of the famous captain James Cook reached the coast of New Zealand. In April of the following year, the crew landed in Australia.
Along for the journey were the British botanist Joseph Banks and the botanist Daniel Solander, who was born in Piteå.

The collaboration between the embassy and the gallery began by inviting ten artists: Sharnae Beardsley, Dagmar Dyck, Tabatha Forbes, John McLean, Alexis Neal, Jo Ogier, Jenna Packer, John Pusateri, Lynn Taylor and Michel Tuffery. They got to know Daniel Solander through literature, letters and parts of his research materials. They then took on the task of interpreting Solander and his part in the expedition to Oceania.
In 2019, their works were exhibited at the gallery in New Zealand. After Pär Ahlberger visited Öjebyn and the Solander Association that same year, the idea was born to exhibit the works in Piteå.
