Öholmaleden - bike trail

Öholmaleden starts on Storgatan, right where the pedestrian street ends. The trail continues down towards the water and past Smurfit Kappa and out to the residential area of Degeränget. Then Öholmaleden continues across the water via Öholmabron – Piteå's own "Golden Gate".

Öholmabron was inaugurated and put into use on 24 September 1996. The slender bridge span is beautifully illuminated during the dark hours of the day. Once on the bridge, a fine view of Inrefjärden opens up. The trail continues on towards Bergsviken and Storfors and then goes towards Hortlax, passing both the health centre and the school. The trail ends in the middle of Hortlax, but feel free to make a detour up to the church ore before turning back to Piteå. Hortlax's whitewashed church is built in a romantic mix of Art Nouveau and Gothic and is a bit reminiscent of a fairytale castle where it is located on a hill above the community.

If you feel like extending your route, you can, for example, follow the road around nearby Höträsket. If you want to get to the village of Jävre, you are also on the right track. Just set course for Blåsmark, continue from there to Hemmingsmark and so on to Jävre. There you can take a breather at the futuristic tourist station from the sixties, known from SVT's "K-märkt på väg" or, if your legs still bear, climb the lighthouse down by the beach.

Length approx.: 10.2 km
The trail runs along footpaths and cycle paths and in mixed traffic.
