Grain has historically been a vital staple food in our region and remains so today. For the first time in a very long while, ancient grain varieties are now being grown for human consumption in Norrbotten and Piteå. Known as "heritage grains," some of these varieties date back as far as 10,000 years. Our ancestors figured out how to survive up here in the north during times of crisis—lessons learned the hard way through periods of severe famine.

Susanne Jonsson invites you to rediscover the history of grain cultivation, Piteå’s rich pastry culture, café nostalgia, *fika* traditions, and the baked goods—past and present—prepared in our homes and restaurants.

She will also discuss the grain varieties being harvested this year and provide an update on the ongoing efforts to re-establish grain farming for human consumption in Norrbotten. Today, we know all about food prices—but do we know the true value of the food we eat?

Feel free to bring along memories, recipes, and interesting tidbits from the past; passing this knowledge on to future generations is vital, as our food culture is a key part of our identity. It fosters a sense of community and connects us to the generations that walked these same streets, plowed these fields, and toiled to build a better future for us.

Admission: 80 SEK (free for museum association members).
